about the author

Kerri Adamic has had a lot of adventures in life!

Beginning at 51 hours old, she stopped breathing, which caused brain damage affecting her fine motor skills, including the ability to speak.

However, Kerri feels she was very blessed with a set of great parents who loved and taught her and, most of all, gave her a wonderful life!

Although her body does not work well, she reminds people that her mind and spirit are just fine! She gets around in her power chair and uses a communication device. She says, “I wouldn’t change my life for anything, and I’m happy the way I am!”

That enthusiasm for life has enabled her to accomplish the seemingly impossible.
“This hasn't been easy, but with faith in God and in myself, I have learned how to do many things in unusual ways!”

Kerri received her Associate’s Degree in 2002, after 11 years of persistence and hard work. She was married to James Curtice in 2010. She is presently working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work through BYU Idaho Online Courses.

None of this would have been possible without those who first recognized her desire to learn, and then patiently worked with her.

Kerri speaks to many public groups. She is an Ambassador for the Prentke Romich Company, which has been leading the way in giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Being their ambassador includes manning booths at conventions, participating in discussions and giving speeches.

She is very involved with the many pursuits of the Regional Center of Orange County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to coordinating lifelong services & supports for people with developmental disabilities.

Kerri is also an active member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. In addition, she has worked for 15 years tutoring disabled children.  Working with these children, as well as her own life experiences, has fueled her desire to help others with disabilities.

In this book, she has approached that desire by reaching out to those who are in a position to aid the disabled. She has seen how the people in her life have struggled to find ways to help her live a full and happy life. She has experienced those same frustrations and joys in her own work with disabled children.

Kerri says, “I would like to inspire parents, speech therapists and Special Education teachers to reach out to these disabled children-- to teach them to read and spell so that they can communicate and express their thoughts and feelings.”

Kerri is a go-getter who always tries to make the best of situations. She loves her life, which is full of joy and happiness. She wants others to feel that same joy. Her hope and dream for this book is to have her readers feel that nothing is impossible!

Her friends agree that her contagious smile and positive attitude have them feeling that very thing!
